Being a Glaswegian figurative oil painter means that there is both a heritage and contemporary practice to inspire me.My focus is people, especially women - an inexhaustible subject. My works are varied - some small and delicate, some mysterious and some playful - in response to my models. The life room is essential to me - it is where I experiment with my materials and techniques as well as learn from other artists. My paintings use traditional methods but with a modern sensibility and, of course, from a woman's viewpoint. My residency with the New York Art Student League allowed me to connect with painters using such techniques currently as well as see past masters. There is nothing quite like discovering what paint will do!
